Better Gallery

It's been a while since I've done any significant improvements on my own site.  This is mostly because I've been busy with other things.  But I've had a couple requests from people who want to order prints of my work.

You may remember my old gallery (which is still up) had a big focus on selling photos, to the point where a user's ability to view my work was heavily restricted.  Most albums wouldn't even let you view a full-screen image unless you were authorized.  I gave up this approach for two reasons: (1) I ended up authorizing most of my friends & family, and (2) I never really made any money anyway.  Oh, to be sure, some people bought prints.  But not enough to break even.

My new gallery is not only cleaner and easier, but much more permissive.  This is partially due to the nature of the software (Gallery2 instead of Coppermine) but also due to conscious choices I made.  If you're not going to buy my work, you're not going to buy it.  My original reason for putting photos online was so I could share my work with friends & family.  I like my work and apparently other people do too.  From the beginning, the new gallery allowed you to download full-size images.  I always intended to implement more advanced features but never put in the effort to make it work.

Until now.

Now, there are a lot more things you can do with my photos.  Here's a list:

  • Order prints from Shutterfly
  • Order prints from Digibug (I get a commission if you do it this way)
  • Download a zip file of all your favorites
  • Send an e-card (like Hallmark.com)
  • Share with friends via email, social networking, or social media
  • Leave comments

Please note that I'm still retaining rights to my work under the Creative Commons license (see below).  It's a very permissive license but please don't abuse it.

Enjoy!
