Death to Spammers

This is the third spam-related post in a week. But hopefully the last. I've taken Thu's wonderful suggestions, thank you Thu!

Akismet should save me a lot of time in terms of filtering out unwanted spam. Also, turns out it was built-in, all I had to do was activate it and sign up at Wordpress.com . Once again, Wordpress shows its strength and convenience. This is the best blog system I've ever seen. Also, for some reason, this plugin reminded me of the Led Zeppelin song Kismet. Cool song. I imagine that as Akismet deletes all my spam, it plays that song in its head. Okay, now I'm anthropomorphising a blog plugin.

Redoing my guestbook is a little more tricky. I like Thu's idea of integrating the guestbook into the gallery; it will make theme management easier, among other things. But, it's going to require a lot more work on my part. And if I'm going to integrate the theme, it may as well be a theme I really like. I'm not that thrilled with any of the Coppermine themes, so I'm trying to design my own. Turns out it's hard to do. Here are some tips:

  • Coppermine's website will give you a theme preview that explains how the CSS sheets integrate into the theme. Here it is.
  • View that page using Internet Explorer.
  • Make sure your template.html and theme.php files point to the right CSS sheet.
  • Your theme name has to be all lower case.

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into figuring that out. (Well no blood, and not much sweat, but a lot of tears.) Anyway, it's going to take a long, long time to actually edit a new theme. It's time to go home and spend some time with my wife.
