Dolphin vs. Konqueror: an opinion you don't care about
Since Kubuntu decided to change the default file manager from Konqueror to Dolphin, there's been a lot of flaming online. Let me start by saying I understand why they did it and I agree. The (K)Ubuntu teams have made some odd choices and frankly Konqueror was one of them. People used to complain that it was a bad choice as a default web browser, which isn't really true; people just needed to get used to it. But before Dolphin came along, the most common complaint about Konqueror was that it was too complicated. People make the same complaint about KDE, in large part because Konqueror was too complicated. Dolphin tries to fix that problem. I get it. I dig it.
But I don't like Dolphin.
If you're using KDE instead of Gnome, it's probably because you're a power user. (Frankly if you're using Linux at all you're probably a power user. I know the current trend is to fix that problem, but let's call a spade a spade.) I have high demands from my file manager and Dolphin simply didn't meet them. I gave it the "college try," I really did. It simply isn't good enough. Fortunately, it's easy to switch back to Konqueror:
