First Day at Work

I got a job!  It's only temporary, part time, and it's not legal work.  But it's a start.

I've had a pretty long dry spell, like a lot of people in the country right now.  (Even lawyers from top tier schools.  I've heard stories.)  Yelena & I are lucky that we've been able to stay afloat, and even live pretty comfortably compared to a lot of people out there.  Naturally, Yelena gets a huge amount of credit for working so hard.  So naturally I'm exciting to have anything right now.

Beyond that, though, I'm excited about this position.  I'm working for the UCSF - UC Hastings Consortium, a new organization that is trying to pool the talent between a law school and a med school in San Francisco.  They started very recently and have some large goals.  I am serving as an independent consultant.  I will help them with internal systems as they expand their staff by 50% in the next couple weeks.  I'm also going to be consulting them on a good portion of their marketing and outreach, both online and in print.  Web design will be a good portion of that; they need an advanced content management system with groupware, rich media, and social networking.  It just so happens that I do that kind of thing.

Bottom line, I'm involved with a very cool organization, doing what I love, and getting paid for it.  The other people in the office are all really nice.  I'm excited.
