God Loves America

. . . and hates the British, apparently.

I was just reading a silly list online of "weird coincidences" and one of them was the 1814 tornado in Washington, DC.  It hit literally the same day that the British set fire to government buildings in the Capitol.  The rains associated with the tornado put out the fires, and the tornado itself killed more British soldiers than the US Army did.
Yelena & I lived in DC for three months.  Guess how many tornadoes we saw: zero.  In fact, there have been fewer than 10 recorded tornadoes in DC in the last two hundred years.  And one of them happened to hit just as the British were attacking.
I had trouble believing it too, but here's the official page from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, listing it as the first ever recorded tornado in DC: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/lwx/Historic_Events/DC-tornado-events.htm
