How are Mom and Baby?

They're both doing well.  Yelena will probably be discharged today (Monday).  She's still sore but feels better every day and is in good spirits.  Baby is still small.  It's taking him a while to learn how to eat, and in fact most babies lose weight their first week.  He seems to prefer sleeping, which won't help him grow.  But he's slowly getting the hang of it so hopefully we'll see him start to gain weight soon.  The hospital will probably hold on to him through the end of the week, but they may take him out of the incubator today or tomorrow, which is a good sign.

I spent most of yesterday and today running around getting a few remaining items off our registry and setting things up at home.  We now have a stroller and basinette, which are the most important things.  We have a crib but I haven't bothered setting it up.  He's so small we figure we don't need a crib for a while.  Our great aunt Bess bought us a very fancy basinette that converts to a co-sleeper so baby will sleep very comfortably!

That's four days I've spent on the baby, and now I need to get back to studying for the bar.  Thankfully, my tutor scheduled four days for the baby, so I'm not behind schedule.  But I only have two months left and the bar examiners don't care how cute my baby is.  So this may be the last baby update for a while.  Two pieces of good news: (1) Yelena will be taking time off and Grandma Marina will be staying with us for a week or two so they can look after the little guy, and (2) After the bar exam I plan to be a stay-at-home dad so I'll be able to make up for lost time then.  In the mean time, if you want updates you can bug Yelena.

Thanks to everyone who has sent us good wishes and congratulations.  This is a well loved baby!
