Movie Review: Cars

Two thumbs up!

I was expecting this to be a typical piece of cute, sentimental fluff with normal-looking computer graphics.  Oh look, big-town car is stuck in small town and learns to love them.  Awww.

It's a lot more than that.
There are two worlds in this movie: the world of professional racing, and the world of small, abandoned tourist towns along Route 66.  The movie nails both of them.  They completely captured the look and feel of NASCAR racing, and even got the most famous NASCAR color comentator to be a sports announcer in the movie too.  Meanwhile, the scenes that took place in a small town along the "Mother Road" brought back memories of many, many family trips to the area.  "Nostalgia" is too simple to describe what this movie made me feel.

It had true depth, true humor, excellent acting from excellent actors (Paul Newman, Ellen Degeneres, and Owen Wilson), and animation that truly went beyond what I've seen before.  This is truly the best of what Pixar has to offer.

(And Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!)
