Movie Review: The Good Girl

Thumbs up.I didn't have high hopes for a Jennifer Aniston movie. The last good movie she did was Office Space. ("I've got a new job now, I'm working at Hooters, it's really nice.") She's gorgeous, but she's not a very talented actress, I'm sorry.

But she surprised me. She not only nailed the role, but she made it her own. Small things like the way she walked, which weren't in the script but totally showed her character. Also, the other actors were fantastic, especially Jake Gyllenhaal (which is to be expected; he is a very good actor). The rest of the supporting cast was good as well; the script gave them opportunities to show real depth, and most of them rose to the occaision.

The problem: I don't really like movies about spouses that cheat on each other, and I also don't like movies where the main characters are not sympathetic. Jennifer's character is dishonest and narcissistic. Even after she "learns her lesson," she continues to be dishonest and manipulates the people who love her, for her own benefit.

That being said, the movie was well acted and had some real depth to it. It also does a good job of building suspense, which is good because ultimately it's sort of a dramatic thriller.

Anyway, worth renting.
