Movie Review: La mala educación

movie poster
Two thumbs up: Me & Yelena
The Good: Direction, cinematography, acting, plot
The Bad: Way too much gay sex
Let me make this clear at the start (if you know me then I shouldn't have to make it clear): I have no problem with people having gay sex.  I just don't want to watch it.  And I really don't want to watch 105 minutes of it.
But in spite of my latent homosexuality--I mean lack of desire to watch someone taking it up the butt--I was drawn to this film because it was so well done.  The film was a work of art.  The only problem was the pacing was a little slow, but that was only done to draw out the art and give the actors more time to emote.  I imagine that while filming this movie, the director Pedro Almodovar kept saying: "Hey, here's another really artistic shot I can do!"  This movie should be shown in film school.  Some movies start with a series of artistic shots (like the new Pirates of the Carribean movie--remember the rain on the teacups), as if to say "look at me, I can be artistic," but then they drop it.  Almodovar sustained his sense of artistry throughout the film.
So, it's not a movie that I'd watch with my male buddies and a case of beer.  But I'll tell you this: I'm going to go out and rent everything Almodovar has done.
