Quote for the New Year
"All the world before us is a very narrow bridge, and the main thing is not to fear at all."
--Rabbi Nachman of Bratzlav
Found this in the Kol Nidre prayer book and it jumped out at me. If you like it took, here are a few desktop backgrounds so you can take it with you, along with my other Jewish photos (one for Rosh Hashanah and a few for Hanukah).
[cpg_albumnew:114]
The backgrounds are only one size and they're meant for a widescreen monitor because that's what I have. If you want something else, just ask.
And Happy Jewish New Year.

Elections ain't what they used to be
They actually used to be worse. Dirtier, more dishonest, more corrupt. Here's a list.
What can we take away from this? That American democracy is horribly fucked up? I prefer to see the ballot box as half full. Elections are now cleaner and more honest than they have been in the past, as hard as that is to fathom. That means we're actually heading in the right direction.

How did she know?
"For all those Joe Sixpacks playing a drinking game at home: MAVERICK." Psht. Glubglubglubglub. Here's the SNL version!

She didn't set the podium on fire
Too bad, though. It would have been fun. It was still fun. I made popcorn and played the Sarah Palin drinking game, and had to stop because I was getting too sloshed. But I noticed Palin is a lot more palatable when you're drunk. Maybe that explains Republicans? It sure explained Cheney's shooting accident. The real surprise was Biden. I'd never heard him speak before, but the man is an artist with words. Almost as good as Obama. Here are a few of my favorite Palin-isms from last night:

I'm going to have fun tonight
It's the Palin Roast! A.k.a. "The Vice-Presidential Debate." Although there's no back-and-forth between the two candidates so it's more like two interviews being conducted at the same time: one with Biden, and one with Palin. A friend of mine (Rob Lawton) has pointed out that expectations of Palin are so low, she'll be judged a success if she can manage not to set the podium on fire. I think she might just do that. Set the podium on fire. More fun with Palin in a minute, but first, some Englishmen explain the economic crisis.
