A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitudeand spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you
help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know
where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air
balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above
sea level. You are at a latitude of 38° 53' 30" and longitude of -77° 0'
29".

"She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be an Obama Democrat."

Yelena just finished a week doing night shift at the hospital so now she gets a little time off.  We took the opportunity to visit Grandma & Grandpa in San Diego.  On the way down I tried a new route: Highway 198.  It's a tiny little slice of California tucked in between US 101 and I-5, and it's gorgeous.  As we drove along, I thought to myself, "this is God's country."  Around the next turn was a sign: Priest Valley.  Seemed appropriate.

A lot of people these days seem to feel that science is at war with religion.  I'm not convinced that it is, or that it ever was.

I think the Mehserle verdict was fair.  Let's break it down.

Involuntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of another human being, without malice or intent.  You're still guilty of a crime--a felony, no less--and you'll still be punished.
