Damn spammers!

Now they're hitting my photo gallery.  Luckily my gallery lets me know every time I receive a "comment" on one of my photos.  A few people have left comments letting me know how much they liked my photos, which I appreciated.  You still can, only now you have to register with my gallery first.  Still, I hate it when the damn spammers make life more difficult for everyone else.

I've also basically closed my guest book for the same reason.  I need to upgrade to the new version that has anti-spamming capabilities.

Grrrr.

Linux On My Laptop, Vol. 2: Beryl

(For those of you who haven't noticed yet, Beryl is the incredibly cool eye-candy that's only available on Linux.)

Yeah, it worked.  Like a charm.  Installation took about two minutes.  Didn't even need to restart.  I was worried because my laptop doesn't even have a graphics card, just on-board video.  No sweat; the 3D cube spins just fine.

Installing linux on a new computer is like reliving the magic.  I still can't get over how easy/cool it is.

Back from vacation

Yelena & I drove back from Tahoe yesterday, in Amy's newly-repaired-and-still-broken car (the damn mechanic fixed the coolant problem but still didn't fix the heater!).  Got to my mom's house, picked up the hamster, dropped off all the gear that she couldn't fit in her car when she left, and headed down to SF.  The rain was close to the worst I've ever seen; sometimes it was impossible to even do the speed limit.

It was nice to get home.  After synchronizing all the photos from the trip (they'll be online soon, I promise), I installed Linux on my laptop.  Something I've been waiting to do since before finals.  So far the process has reinforced everything I've learned lately about the differences between Linux & Windows.
