Stupid Technology
As some of you may already be aware I've set up a webcam for Nathan. I was using UStream, which seemed great - I was able to run it on Yelena's very old laptop, with my very old webcam, and it ran fine. Full screen video, sound, the works. For free. UStream is also the company that brought you the puppycam, so I figured I was in good hands.
The main reason I set up the "babycam" was so Yelena could see Nathan while she's working her long weeks at UCSF. Unfortunately she spends most of her time away from the computer. The good news: UStream has an iPhone app. (Yelena doesn't have an iPhone, but she does have an iPod touch which is essentially the same thing but without the cell phone part.) The bad news: the UStream iPhone app sucks.
Turns out it only lets you watch "featured" or "popular" videos. And since my babycam is private, it is neither featured nor popular (in fact, it's password protected). The result: no babycam. Boo!
Of course, there are other programs out there. I will be dumping UStream and picking up something better as soon as I can. Stay tuned.
