My Phone Has Flash and Yours Doesn't

I recently blogged about the imminent release of Froyo, a.k.a. Android OS 2.2, for the Motorola Droid on Verizon.  The rollout has begun, but it will take another week or two for it to reach all phones.  I got sick of waiting, so I downloaded the update myself, and then followed up with the big prize: Flash.  Here's how I did it, followed by my first impressions.

Apparently, I'm a Zombie

This is a photo taken on my brother in law's iPhone.  I didn't realize I photographed so poorly.

This was taken with the Zombie Survival Guide Detector App.  (Needless to say, I'm jealous that this app exists on the iPhone and not Android.)

DROID 1 GETTING 2.2 ON AUGUST 3RD

A local Verizon employee told me today that Verizon will start pushing Android OS 2.2 to original Droid phones starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 3rd.  I asked if there was any way to rush the process and he said no; just wait for it to be pushed to the phone.

I've been eagerly waiting for the official update for some time and it's very exciting that it's finally here!

Movie Review: Inception

Thumbs Up

Inception is one of the greatest movies of all time.  No, really.  It's a genre-defying tour de force in terms of production, direction, acting, writing, and pretty much every other element that matters.  On top of that, it has a multi-layered plot.  Most importantly, it grabs you on a visceral level and doesn't let go, even after you leave the movie theater.  I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night.

Rant #2: This Is America (In a Good Way)

Apparently there's a proposal to build a mosque on the site of the World Trade Center.  I like this idea.  No, really.

Of course, my knee-jerk reaction was "absolutely no way."  I don't believe that America is at war with Islam, but it's nevertheless true that the building was brought down by Muslims.  Building a mosque on the site would be like building a giant swastika in Israel.

Except, not really.

Rant #1: I Hate to Say It, Redux

First, let me make something clear: I hate Netanyahu.  I hate him because he's a hawk who isn't really interested in making peace with the Palestinians.  The occupation is anti-Democratic and anti-Jewish and it must end.  To be sure, Israel has a right to defend itself, a right which most of the world doesn't recognize, due to hypocrisy and anti-Semitism.  (As Americans we forget that most of the rest of the world actually does still hate Jews.)  But there is a whole swath of Israeli polity that is willing to defend Israel and make peace.

Blaming the Democrats

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitudeand spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you
help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know
where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air
balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above
sea level. You are at a latitude of 38° 53' 30" and longitude of -77° 0'
29".

"She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be an Obama Democrat."
