Architecture: Thumbs up

Exhibits: Thumbs down

This is what I expected. I'm talking about the "new" one (which is apparently the old one)--the one with the modern architecture. I'm generally not a fan of modern architecture, but this building was truly inspired. It takes three simple textures: rough rock, smooth rock, and curvy metal, and combines them in almost infinite varieties. Then it adds in negative space, fountains, natural gardens, and panoramic views of Los Angeles. Every time I turned a corner I saw something new to photograph.

Review: Disneyland

Thumbs up.  No, really.

Yesterday I went to Disneyland for the first time.  I was probably the only person left in California who had never been.  It was awesome.  Really.  There are two things that surprised me: how much effort they put into it, and how genuine it all seemed.

First of all, vacation is awesome. I really needed this.

Politicized again

Remember my rant about Apple not letting you save mp3's on other mp3 players?  This is known as DRM - Digital Rights Management.  The RIAA, which has its head firmly stuck in the sand, thinks that DRM will solve the mp3 piracy problem.  Good luck with that one, fellas.  Let me know how that works out for you.  This week's CNET poll asked people what they thought about DRM.  Note that this forum only supports legal music distribution.  Check out the poll results on CNET.com.

Another sign

I get an online newsletter about tech-related stuff every week.  Every week they do a poll about some computer-related thing, like "have you bought an LCD yet?"  Or, "when will you install the new version of Windows?"  Last week the question was: "Which of the following do you think is the biggest threat to your privacy?"  They were talking about adware, spyware, or Google.  (In case you didn't know, and you should, Google saves every search you've ever done.  Now the government is suing them for that information.  You should be worried.)  Anyway, this is a completely tech thing, no

Another Linux victory

Reformatted my files hard drive into a format that can be read by both linux and windoze.  Successfully copied over most of my files.  The big news: turned on file sharing!  Now my linux-hosted hard drive is accessible over the windoze network.  Awesome.

At least I have something going for me these days . . .

Getting fed up

Things are getting worse at the San Mateo DA.  It seems like they don't appreciate anything I do.  I'm getting more and more unhappy there.  Last night I woke up in the middle of the night coughing up bile.  Bad sign.  I sent an email to the clinic professor, maybe I can get transfered out.
Don't know why I bother posting these password-protected posts; no one has asked me for the password yet.

I'm old

This proves it.
